This department assists the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office in administering, monitoring and reviewing grants for a range of activities that are locally planned, designed, and coordinated through local governments. These include crime prevention, intervention, diversion, law enforcement, prosecution, technological advances for law enforcement, information sharing, and victims’ services.
Grant applications and instructions are available from the Office of the Governor Criminal Justice Division. The state division also funds activities of the LRGVDC's Regional Criminal Justice Coordination Program.
Regional planning activities include coordinating and consolidating activities of the criminal justice agencies within the three-county region to maximize available funds and resources. This process involves identifying local crime problems, system resources, goals and objectives, and projecting programs and funding needs. The department and the LRGVDC provide technical assistance to facilitate the funding application process developed by local governments on behalf of their criminal justice agencies. This assistance helps assure that projects developed are consistent with identified needs and do not duplicate services or programs.
If technical assistance is required, please contact the State Criminal Justice Division at 512-463-1919 or you may contact local Criminal Justice Planning Staff at 956-682-3481. Point of Contact is Manuel Cruz, Director of Homeland Security and Criminal Justice. Email: mcruz@lrgvdc.org.
